from hafiz's blog (hope you don't mind!):
"I dunno why i'm suddenly like recounting bout my past. I think it's all the photos that i've juz took a look at. I feel that life has been goin at a very fast pace. Slow down now please. It's really goin too fast. Im missing the fun. After JC, life will be more of an indepent kind of thing. No longer bounded by rules. No more band SYF. No more class. No more school events. No more boring tutorials. It's like everything passing by me like a bullet train. Stop the time. Please. Rewind. 17 years passed. I dun wanna grow up sumore. Stop."
sigh. i share the same sentiments... is this life? maybe. but why does life have to go on this way, i ask.
ok nevermind me. got to go for sywo practice now.
leave me be.

philwinds concert this coming sunday... please come support! it's really gonna be a great concert. here are the details taken from bandzone forum:
Philharmonic Winds presents
Five Years Of Music
Artistic director Robert Casteels returns for his first concert with the wind orchestra this year – celebrating five years of music-making. Since it’s formation in 2000, the ensemble has grown from strength to strength, chalking up 13 full-length concerts and numerous other performances, including the Singapore Arts Festival Arts On The Move series, Singapore Botanic Gardens Concert In The Park series and National Arts Council’s Arts In The City series.
Programme List
Richard Strauss (1864-1949)
Alleseelen Op 10 No.8 (All Soul’s Day) - WMC Warm up Piece
Kenneth Hesketh (b.1968)
Danceries (4 movements) - WMC 1st Division Set Piece
Yasuhide Ito (b.1960)
Symphonic Poem for Band, "Gloriosa" (3 movements) - WMC Choice Piece
Johan de Meij (b.1953)
La Quintessenza for wind orchestra
Ottorino Resphigi (1879-1936)
Huntingtower – ballad for band
Francis Macbeth (b.1933)Of Sailor and Whales (5 movements)
Although impossible to review all the pieces played in the past five years, the Philharmonic Winds has picked out some highlights from previous concerts. Come July, the wind orchestra will also be embarking on their first overseas trip as a band, participating in the World Music Competition (WMC) that happens once every four years in Kerkrade, the Netherlands. The first half of this concert will feature the music that will be performed there.
Kenneth Hesketh’s Danceries has been chosen as the set piece for the First Division in this edition of the WMC. This delightful set of four dances is based on original and melodic folk tunes from the 17th century and before. Although this was performed just last December at the Esplanade Concert Hall in An Evening With Timothy Reynish, listen to the different treatment given to this deceptively simple work by Dr. Casteels.
In December 2001, the Philharmonic Winds performed Sounds Of Japan under the baton of Dr. Casteels to a wildly-receptive capacity crowd in Victoria Concert Hall. One of the highlights of the concert – you might remember the virtuosic saxophonist Shin-ichiro Hikosaka from that performance – is Yashide Ito’s Gloriosa. Inspired by the music of the “hidden Christians” of Kyushus, who continue to practise their faith surreptitiously after Christianity was banned in 1614, Gloriosa fuses Gregorian chant with Japanese folk music. This piece has been selected as the band’s choice piece for the competition.
Popular Dutch composer Johan de Meij’s music was featured in Absoluut Dutch in 2002, where the composer himself conducted two nights of his works at the Singapore Conference Hall. La Quintessenza was one of the highlights that evening. The piece is based on a five-note motif, introduced from the onset by a trumpet fanfare, which is put through a series of variations throughout the movie soundtrack-like composition.
Italian composer Ottorino Respighi, known for introducing Russian orchestral colour and Richard Strauss’ harmonic techniques into Italian music, is synonymous with his most famous orchestral masterpieces like the Pines Of Rome. However, what many do not know is that he has written one original work for band – Huntingtower. The tone poem, set in four distinct sections, captures different moods and reflects the character of the Scottish castle after which it was named. This piece was performed in 2002 under the direction of Dr. Casteels.
This anniversary concert would not be complete without a representation from the inaugural concert. Francis McBeth’s Of Sailors And Whales is based on five scenes from Herman Melville’s Moby Dick. In the third movement, the band transforms into a chorus, singing a hymn that begins dreadfully but bursts forth in the concluding stanzas “with a pealing exultation and joy”
Join us as we bring to you some of the best music we have come across, revisited and re-interpreted with the wisdom of hindsight and fresh musical insight.
Date: 26 June 2005 (Sunday)
Time: 7.30pm
Venue: Esplanade Concert Hall
Tickets: $15, $18 and $20 (excludes $1 Sistic charge)
*As this concert is supported by the National Arts Council, students can claim up to 60% off ticket prices based on the tote board grant. Please contact us for more details.
so that's it... so if anybody wants tickets please tell me!

went to run early in the morning before band prac today. with zhiyuan mervin and mervyn. lol. its lovely listening to the sort-of-resonant sound after resting from the run. but not so lovely when i leak air from the side of my lips. sian. hm then jammed abit with mervin after prac. fun!

woke up super early.
to get my arban book from bandroom. and slept there until 0950hours i think. then went down to ccab for...
syo audition...
not too bad. hopefully can make it ba... i just want to be in training for now.
met yiqing and guanyu at the audition. guanyu i know she's auditing, but was surprised about yiqing. really a small world out there eh.
so basically spent the day with them stoning around smu and ccab, and raffles city bk later. wa talk to them can die de lo. they are like wanting to pluck out my goatee or whatever's under my chin. feel like taking the table and smash them la! and they really do know how to gossip man... so mean. haha.
planned to study. but falling asleep soon. zzz...

loaded!
with band pracs today...
early in the morning went to run the vj cross country route with mervin and mervyn. so long never run... run until can die la! my legs were like wobbly nearing the end of the run...
hm then band prac had an unexpected turn when laoshi asked me to take the band for one piece, i just got stunned...
studied after prac. managed to squeeze in one chapter into my exhausted and overloaded brain. but tys showed me that i still don't really get it. what the heck.
so studied/stoned all the way until 1830hours. had dinner at kallang airport there with my dad. then went to philwinds le.
at first i expected philwinds to be super tiring and un-fun, and yea the super tiring part was proven in the first few pieces we practised. danceries and gloriosa! what the heck! and lookit never come for prac today lo... so had to tahan gloriosa all by myself. and the 'once per day' ending of gloriosa i almost died... ok anyway i was wrong about un-fun... 'cause halfway during the break we had a blackout! and straightaway the drummer started some rhythm and made the rehearsal room felt like got some celebrity concert at the indoor stadium atmosphere and everybody started jamming and waving handphone lights. at first was like some meaningless jamming until somebody played 'take five' and i followed. in the end played a duet with tjen chew. then the lower brass started off with 'canon' and yes yes the whole band went with that as well... so cool! so fun! haha. then the best part. robert casteels called it a day even though the lights came back. song bo...
ok then now i'm back home with a constipated stomach, aching limbs, feeling exhausted and stupid, because i left my syo audition stuff in school. so got to go back school tomorrow morning... haiz.
better go and rest... zzz...

ok finally got energy to blog.
so let's start with monday.
band investiture. wasn't so bad la. i think junlong emcee very funny... see he wanna laugh out loud but cannot.. haha... then the special item went quite ok. me cheong hing timothy linzheng and terence played the vjcsb theme (based on the addams family theme) arranged by me (with help from timothy)! got the band to sing along with lyrics made up by andrew ong and christopher. haha!
hm then after the investiture had to talk to laoshi about tonnes of stuff. wa in exco so mafan la... must settle tonnes of stuff...
ok nevermind next up went back to mbs for alumni prac. erm.. enough said ba. don't really like it but i promised to play le...
then went for vjcsb chalet! haiya was abit too slow by the time i went back to school the bandroom already lock le so i had to lug my trumpet all the way to the chalet. then rented bikes overnight at $6... quite cheap la 'cause was $2 off the original price le. actually wanted to blade but i don't want to do overnight blading i think my legs will just lan diao haha... and bo hua to rent blades by hour i will just go pok. yea so cycled all the way to some construction there then turn back and played some soccer with don't know who i forget le haha... then went back and ate some fried rice then went out play again. bowling came up next and i lost miserably... bowling's just not my thing. haha. sent xiuyu home after bowling with weixiang chenghuat xianwei and fangxian. weixiang and chenghuat were having a tough time giving xiuyu a ride la... quite funny. since got nothing much to do we decided to go siglap 7-11 there buy refreshments. sat at the busstop and talked abit. then proceeded to cycle one round around vs then took the underpass to bedok jetty. on our way back we met the others: zhiyuan junlong cheonghing guanyee jessie. and so we went to cycle towards tanah merah there i think... then reached this part where there was no lights and i could see like totally nothing. but for the fun of it and to train our guts we went on foot (since i got night blindness and they don't want me to knock down anybody or anything) until we reached the next source of light. which was at some resort like place i think. then the sky grew abit brighter so i suggested we bike back. yepz was quite an experience haha especially for those who were non-vs and never went through solowalk before. my butt was so painful by then le la... haha and oh ya i tried cycling without hands! results quite inconsistent though. must practise... haha. and stupid fangxian was trying to make me fall throughout the whole chalet. but she didn't manage to make me fall... hm then still got stupid guanyee also! during the bbq he tried to flick the matchstick against the side of the matchbox to light it and make it fly at the same time and it came flying lighted at me and landed somewhere near my groin... what the hell la! almost burned my pants! then next alvin had it hit the back of my left hand. dotz. and after that i became some target practise for those who were trying that as i'm like some magnet for the lighted matchsticks. dotz dotz dotz.
then on tuesday morning we had breakfast at macs after returning the bikes. slept at vj bandroom after that. went back home just to sleep some more...
finally on to today! today was the my first band prac as an exco member... and i was almost late! thanks to miss jessie yee... supposed to meet at her house void deck at 0730 and when i messaged her saying i was there le she called me and told me she just woke up... excellent! so wait lo... then on the way to the busstop she complained that she don't like taking 135 from that busstop, 'cause she'll see 135 leave while nearing the busstop. and guess what we saw when we neared the busstop? 135 leaving! double excellent! ok well there's more... but i shall be nice and stop here... haha so jessie if you are reading this you better thank me man... for not putting everything down... retribution! from me for calling me pig... heh.
so band prac was kinda ok... somebody must suggest that we play symphony no. 5 because there are lack of scores as alvin wasn't around yet... triple excellent! but luckily alvin arrived and i went to look for scores with him leaving behind (oops) jessie to enjoy the highs alone. hm then i played third for almost everything since i won't be playing for band fiesta and maybe college day... yepz. so long never play third le... so fun!
wanted to play badminton just now... but hall was locked when we wanted to play... so played basketball 1v1 with weixiang and lost miserably again... haha sianz.
hm ok this post getting too long le... enough ba.
really need to settle down soon...

its been a really busy week.
monday to wednesday had operation: backwoodsman, some sort of leadership camp. learnt quite a bit of stuff and got to know more leaders around the school. but was kind of boring. 'cause it was like workshops after workshops. other than that the camp was pretty slack. if you completed everything beforehand or nobody knows that u're supposed to be around you can just go off somewhere and do something else. haha.
hm then tuesday was the unofficial handover. not very keen about my post though. can only say i will try my best. anyway congrats to those that got what they wanted, and for those that didn't get what they want, don't be discouraged or don't harbor any bad feelings towards others; there isn't much difference between a normal member and the president, the only difference is the title you hold. furthermore in a band, achieving good playing skills should be your priority. like what zhiyuan has said to vs people last time: if your playing skills are not up to standard and you don't make an attempt to pull it up, your contributions to the band are considered to be zero. nil.
hm then wednesday went for tj concert. the skit was funny. the concert itself wasn't too bad. don't really like the playing for the second half though.
then these few days busy with planning the investiture for the band. super tiring. planned the special item with timothy. did the exco gifts just now at chenghuat's house. eyes going haywire soon... investiture... hope it goes fine ba.
having too many commitments sucks. philwinds, sywo, mbscb alumni and normal band pracs... clashing schedules almost everywhere. hate it. sian.
